Difficult Course and Possible Inclement Weather:Imogene Pass is exceptionally beautiful, even by Colorado standards. Because of its mountainous setting and the time of its running, however, the course is difficult and hostile weather is a very real possibility on race day. The course description and history speak to the difficulty of the endeavor. Participants may encounter subfreezing temperatures, winds, rain, snow and fog; the possibility of injury and/or hypothermia must be emphasized. While mountain rescue teams, EMTs and other assistance may be provided, PARTICIPANTS BEAR THE ULTIMATE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY AND RISK. TRAIN yourself to negotiate very steep, rocky and possibly icy, snow-covered ascents and descents. PREPARE yourself to contend with hostile weather conditions - in threatening weather the IPR will STRONGLY SUGGEST that participants have a jacket, gloves and hat to proceed over the summit. Improperly prepared participants may be turned back at the Upper Camp Bird Checkpoint. All participants should have a jacket, gloves and hat at with them during the run. Polypropylene base layers with other types of wicking/waterproof materials are STRONGLY Recommended. The IPR Souvenir t-shirt is COTTON and is not recommended race attire. Rain and foul weather are common during the race even if there is sunshine at the start. Improperly prepared participants may be turned back at the Upper Camp Bird Checkpoint, regardless of cutoff time limitations. return to top Mandatory Cutoff and other course time limits:The cutoff time at the Upper Camp Bird aid station (7.5 miles) is 10:00 AM. All participants who have not reached this station in the allotted time of 2.5 hrs. will be required to turn back to Ouray. The summit qualifying time is 12:00 PM, participants arriving late will have their bib marked DQ (disqualified) and may be requested to sag to finish. Official timing at the finish line in Telluride will cease at 2:30 PM. The cutoff time is for the security of both the participants and the volunteers, and to allow time for the race results calculation before 1:30 PM. return to top Registration:Entry is by PRE-REGISTRATION ONLY. If hostile weather conditions develop after the start of the race, the road above Upper Camp Bird may be closed by the Ouray County Sheriff and all competitors will be required to turn back to Ouray. If so, no finish line timing will be provided. There will be no refunds in the event of race cancellation or course adjustments. return to top Behavioral Policy:Participants who exhibit unruly, obnoxious or uncooperative behavior will be disqualified and denied future entry into the IPR. return to top Information:Message centers at Race Check-in and the Finish Line will provide race course information and attempt to give guests status on participants that have been turned back to Ouray.
